1 Hour of Horsemanship
Everyone learns at different paces and with different methods. We understand this, so each lesson is different and tailored to fit the rider with their current confidence/experience level and future goals in mind. Whether you want to one day rope a runaway cow in a pasture, break your first colt, or just learn the ropes of riding in general, our instructors can help you get there. There is never a rush put on students to "get on and ride" or a sense of expectation to meet. At the end of the day, their goal is to see their students happy with themselves and happy with their horses so that they leave feeling accomplished in some small way. Each lesson is 60 minutes long, involving them grooming their horse, tacking them up, and riding out to warm them up.

Private Lessons (One Student; One Instructor)

Depending on what a rider's goals are or their level of familiarity with riding, a solo lesson one-on-one with one of our instructors might be the best option for a rider. In these, clients receive more focused attention and support in their practicing along with a more relaxed atmosphere. They assist in grooming their horse, tacking it up, and then warm it up in our main riding area while the instructor supervises and guides them the whole time. Brand new clients are required to take at least one private lesson as their first with us for evaluation purposes.
We do offer lessons that extend to 90 minutes for $80, but these do not have any pre-pay package options currently.
Group Lessons (2-4 Students; One Instructor)

Often a choice suggested to clients that might be around the same level of experience and share similar goals, group lessons consist of up to four students learning from an instructor at once. For group lessons, clients are asked to show up 30 minutes early so that they can all assist in grooming their horse, tacking them up, and warming them up in the main riding area while the instructor supervise and guides them.
Young Madalyn knows as well as anyone- horses are work! Before every ride, it's her responsibility to brush Bird off and make sure her feet are all clean.
All that work to groom Bird and saddle up is worth it! Just look at that smile. You can tell where her happy place is!

Cancellation Policy
Cancellation Policy
In the event that a lesson/trail/etc. is canceled on our side, we try to let our students know as soon as possible. If a client needs to cancel, we ask they do so at least an hour before their service is scheduled to start in order to sucessfully have it removed from our schedule and not owe anything for it. If there is no notification of a cancelation given to us and a client fails to arrive for their service, then they will be considered a "no-call-no-show" and owe Blackhawk the fee for said service. Clients that fall under this will be unable to schedule anything further until their skipped service is paid for. We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone and may do so if issues with behavior, puncuality, etc. evolves into a pattern that disrupts our environment.

What are age requirements for lessons?
A: Children 10 and under must start out on a leadline and may only ride without one if the instructor decides it is no longer necessary after evaluating them. The only children deemed too young to ride alone are 3 and below.What should I wear?
A: Modest clothing and closed-toe shoes are mandatory. Riders may choose to wear shorts, but pants are recommended to avoid rubbing and chafing between legs and saddles.Do I have to wear a helmet?
A: Yes. All riders of all ages must wear a helmet. If you do not have one, then one will be provided for you. The only case this is not enforced is if you are riding your own horse.Can I take lessons on my own horse?
A: Yes! While we do have lesson horses we can provide, clients can either choose to trailer their horses in for lessons or board them here at Blackhawk. For more information on boarding, click the button below. All visiting equines must have a current coggins and up-to-date health papers from a vet.
What types of lessons do you offer?
A: We mostly focus on western utility riding, though can offer beginning english lessons as well.What if I have no experience around horses?
A: That is totally fine! Our instructors move at the student's speed and teach everyone from what would be considered "Level 0" and up. Age or level of experience doesn't matter to us. Anyone can learn to ride!Can I spend time with my horse after the lesson?
A: Yes. We encourage our students to assist in untacking, cleaning their tack, and grooming their horse to foster their connection with the animal and also to practice responsible horsemanship.
